This drawing shows the tower from the River Thames, showing Traitors’ Gate. The gate was built by Edward 1 and prisoners arriving by barge entered the tower this way. Queen Anne Boleyn and Sir Thomas More entered through this gate.
The tower, an historic castle, is known officially as Her Majesty’s Royal Palace and Fortress of the Tower of London.
